I took advantage of a Open Studio Life Drawing session held by a local university this week. I haven’t worked in a figure drawing studio session like this in many, many years. While this drawing does not come from this week’s session, it does stand out to me from the hundreds of figure drawings I’ve done because of how it was drawn.
In order to filter out the detail and avoid working in small areas, the 18×24 newsprint pad was placed on the floor. Standing, I used a found branch from a tree with the charcoal taped to the end of it. I was remarkably surprised with the result. I don’t remember exactly but, I’m guessing some shading was done after without the branch but at that point, the big, bold, fluid lines were already established.
