Living without the Light

Moonlight After Storm, gouache on watercolor paper, 12×13 (click to zoom)

Last weekend we met Hurricane Sandy and now a week later we still sit in darkness. Sandy’s wrath was magnified by the full moon and the Tuesday night after the storm, I looked out of my bedroom window into the darkness and as my eyes adjusted I saw this view of my neighbor’s house.

I painted it in the coming days in daylight and from memory.

This storm has taught me to be patient.
This storm has forced me to live simple.
This storm has focused me on family.
This storm has reminded me that gouache is amazing!
